Social Personal and Health Education (SPHE)

Social, Personal and Health Education Curriculum (SPHE) is for pupils from junior infants to sixth class and helps children develop a sense of well-being, self confidence along with a feeling of belonging.

Children will be encouraged to be more aware of their actions and how it affects both themselves and their friends around them.

SPHE looks at helping a child’s health, well-being and personal development, to encourage healthy relationships with their family, friends and peers, and guidance on being a responsible member of society.

With the SPHE curriculum, a child can develop a stronger idea of values and attitudes to those around them, as well as the skills to make well informed decisions now, into their teenage and adult life.

The curriculum involves three strands:
