Bí Cineálta – Our School’s Kindness Policy
At our school, we believe every child has the right to feel safe, respected, and valued. In the past, we called this our Anti-Bullying Policy. While its purpose has always been to prevent and address bullying, we now call it Bí Cineálta which means “Be Kind” in Irish because we want to place kindness at the heart of everything we do.
What does Bí Cineálta mean?
It is a positive approach that encourages children to treat one another with kindness, respect, and understanding.
It helps students learn how to build healthy friendships, look out for one another, and take responsibility for their actions.
It sets out clear steps for how we support any child who experiences unkind behaviour and how we guide children to make better choices.
Why did we change the name?
The term anti-bullying focused mainly on what we wanted to stop. Changing to Bí Cineálta shifts the focus to what we want to grow – kindness, respect, and a safe school community. It is the same policy, but framed in a way that supports positive relationships and makes our values clear to children and parents.
